The best 80 dollars I have ever spent in my entire life
This weekend, I had the most amazing opportunity to accompany a bunch of amazing artists and creatives from USF's Studio Arts department to Miami on a bus trip 6 hours from home. This trip was a source of healing, slowness, and rejuvenation in a world that constantly demands our attention and drains our creative energies. After our group made it to Miami, I spent about an hour at Art Basel, alone, before deciding that it didn't matter as much as being around my friends. I accompanied my little group of new-found buddies to lay in the sands at Miami Beach, enjoyed various totally-Miami-exclusive-goodies such as gelato and Raising Canes (this one had a DJ booth! Canes in Clearwater never has a DJ booth!).
On Saturday, our group, guided by our professors, led us on a journey through the Margulies Collection, the Rubell Museum, the neighborhood of Wynwood, and the Perez museum before we ultimately returned to Tampa, but not before seeing the works of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Yoshitomo Nara and many other amazing contemporary artists in person! I was particularly excited about seeing one of Basquiat's works in person, since he is an artist I look up to heavily.
This trip was also an amazing source of community! Even on the bus, I enjoyed playing little games and talking to my seatmates to pass the time due to how long the drive was. I believe heavily that sometimes, the fun is in the journey and less the destination.
